Composition Roofing Shingles Material

Composition roofing shingles come in a variety of styles, patterns, and colors. Composition shingles are the most common application today.

One of the newer and most popular composition shingles today is the laminated shingle also known as architectural or dimensional shingles. These shingles are distinctive in their design and have at least two shingles laminated together to create the illusion of depth.

Standard installation involves ice and water shield, underlayment, flashings, vents, fasteners, and shingles.

Ice and Water Shield – Is a thin layer of self-adhered waterproof material that prevents damage to the roof from water buildup behind ice dams.

Underlayment – Is a moisture and condensation barrier for your roof.

Flashings – Galvanized steel used where shingles meet penetrations such as walls, skylights, chimneys etc.

Vents - Used to circulate air in attics and confined spaces. Vents help keep condensation from forming during cool weather and extreme temperatures during hot weather. These can be power vents, gravity vents, or ridge vents, which are concealed underneath ridge cap.

Fasteners – Galvanized hand nails, coated or stainless-steel coil nails.

Metal roofing is becoming more popular among residential and commercial owners looking for more durability and energy efficiency.

Metal roofing comes in a variety of styles (profiles), colors and finishes. If you want the look of shingle, shake, slate, copper or tile, in a more durable solution, metal may be a great option.

Metal roofs offer superior weather protection. While metal roofing is a more expensive option, you can expect a greater life expectancy from your metal roof.

Metal roofing can be installed on a pitched roof, commonly anything above 3-in-12 pitch slope. There are some metal profiles that can be installed on lower pitched roofs, as well.

Metal roofs, in all shades, are naturally reflective and save energy by keeping the suns rays from heating the top of your structure. Select factory applied colors in lighter shades for even more energy savings.

All metal panels are offered in a variety of colors and gauges. Gauges range from 29 gauge to 22 gauge depending on the style (profile) of the metal selected.

Other manufacturer’s Reliant Roofing obtains metal roofing from include, Metal Sales in Denver, Berridge Metals in Texas and ABC Components in Salt Lake City. All these companies offer many different styles (profiles), one of which is sure to fit your needs.

The cost of your metal roof depends on the style (profile) selected, the metal gauge, your roof pitch, color/finish selected, and freight charges, depending on the manufacturer.

Familiarize yourself with TPO…….

TPO is a type of single-ply roofing membrane (Thermoplastic Polyolefin). TPO membrane can be used for residential, commercial or industrial applications. TPO membrane comes in white, tan and grey colors. TPO membrane comes in 3 thicknesses, 45 mil, 60 mil and 90 mil.

TPO can be mechanically fastened or fully adhered to the roof. Carlisle’s white and tan TPO are ENERGY STAR qualified and COOL ROOF Rating Council (CRRC) – certified.

Familiarize yourself with EPDM…….

EPDM is a type of rubber roofing membrane (Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer). EPDM can be used for residential, commercial or industrial applications.

EPDM is an extremely durable rubber membrane used on low slope / flat roof applications. EPDM can be fully adhered, mechanically fastened or ballasted to the roof.

EPDM comes in two colors, black and white. This rubber membrane comes in two thicknesses, 45 mil, and 60 mil.
